The Ring and the Crown by Melissa de la Cruz
About the book: Princess Marie-Victoria, heir to the Lily Throne, and Aelwyn Myrddn, bastard daughter of the Mage of England, grew up together. But who will rule, and who will serve?About the author: Melissa de la Cruz (www.melissa-delacruz.com) is the author of many best-selling novels, including all the books in the Blue Bloods series: Blue Bloods, Masquerade, Revelations, The Van Alen Legacy, Keys to the Repository, Misguided Angel, Bloody Valentine, Lost in Time, and Gates of Paradise. She lives in Los Angeles, California with her husband and daughter.
Quiet and gentle, Marie has never lived up to the ambitions of her mother, Queen Eleanor the Second, Supreme Ruler of the Franco-British Empire. With the help of her Head Merlin, Emrys, Eleanor has maintained her stranglehold on the world's only source of magic. She rules the most powerful empire the world has ever seen.
But even with the aid of Emrys' magic, Eleanor's extended lifespan is nearing its end. The princess must marry and produce an heir or the Empire will be vulnerable to its greatest enemy, Prussia. The two kingdoms must unite to end the war, and the only solution is a match between Marie and Prince Leopold VII, heir to the Prussian throne. But Marie has always loved Gill, her childhood friend and soldier of the Queen's Guard.
Together, Marie and Aelwyn, a powerful magician in her own right, come up with a plan. Aelwyn will take on Marie's face, allowing the princess to escape with Gill and live the quiet life she's always wanted. And Aelwyn will get what she's always dreamed of--the chance to rule. But the court intrigue and hunger for power in Lenoran England run deeper than anyone could imagine. In the end, there is only rule that matters in Eleanor's court: trust no one. [goodreads]

I normally only read YA, but I recently read The Star Thief by Jamie Grey, an NA book, and loved it! I had always hard such awful things about NA, that they were all just about relationships and sex. The Star Thief had a lot of action and a kick-ass female MC.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the awesome giveaway!
I haven't read very many witch books, I've been a bit apprehensive about them, but I picked up Half Bad. I also have Discovery of Witches on my TBR. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteLast I read was The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night(time). It's out of my usual genre and I liked it. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fantasy fan, but I've been reading a lot of contemporary lately. The most recent, that I LOVED was Something Real by Heather Demetrios.

ReplyDeleteHidden by Catherine McKenzie, I don't read a lot of adult fiction, maybe I don't like to hear adult problems because I am one :) The story was pretty good but sad.
ReplyDeleteI normally read YA, but I just read What I Did for a Duke, an adult historical romance and LOVED it!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a "usual" genre, but fantasy is my least favorite. I recently tried Seraphina, and couldn't finish it, but I also read The Golem & the Jinni and really enjoyed it. So it just depends, I guess...
ReplyDeleteThe last one for me was a western called The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt. It was really good. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI read a wide variety of books but I very rarely read mg books. I read The Iron Jawed Boy and didn't enjoy it but I'm still open minded to reading more mg books.

ReplyDeleteThe last book I read was Of Poseidon by Anna Banks. I loved it! Waiting for the 3rd book of the series!
ReplyDeleteI'm all over the place. But I read very little Historical Fiction these days...so Out of the Easy
ReplyDeleteI read Hold Me Closer, Necromancer by Lish McBride a couple of weeks ago and it was totally different from my usual YA dystopian/contemporary books. But, honestly, it may be one of my all time favorites. It was funny, witty and exciting. I can't wait to read the next one.
ReplyDeleteThe last book I read outside my usual genre was a parenting book! HA! And yes, I must say I enjoyed it. :)
ReplyDeleteHmmm...I usually read YA, but I think the last book I read that wasn't in that genre was One For the Money by Janet Evanovich. And I did enjoy reading it. I am looking forward to reading more of the series. Thank you for the giveaway. I am looking forward to reading this book!
