This week's Top 10 Tuesday prompt wants to know about our favorite characters names. I've always found it fascinating to know how an author comes up with their character names. Is it based on someone they know? Did they scour the list of top baby names for the year their character was born? Or did they pull from a hat of trendy names? A character's name can say a lot about them, or say nothing at all.
Which names are your favorites? Do you tend to like the classic/timeless names? Or something original and trendy? How do you feel about a popular name used in multiple books? Be sure to check out The Broke and the Bookish for more details on this awesome weekly feature.

I love your list! When I think of Rory, I immediately think Gilmore Girls, but I like the Rules of Summer's Rory too. I can't believe I forgot Emaline :( I think it's because I loved her story, but didn't really connect with the novel.

I love Rory from Gilmore Girls! I was obsessed with that show so much so that I have all the season on DVD lol. Great name no matter where it is :)
DeleteMe too...whenever I hear Rory, Gilmore Girls comes to mind first :)

Great List. I loved the book The Sky Is Everywhere! It's one of my all time favourites.

This is a great list. Nice picks. And I completely forgot about The Sky is Everywhere. I loved that name!

Ooo, I really like Emaline. Such a pretty name. I almost included Oliver, but decided not too. I'm always thinking of nicknames for names I like, too. I really like the name Violet, but the nickname Vi is awful. Well, I don't like it anyway.
ReplyDeleteOh love your list and such pretty names. I agree with the others...every time I hear the name Rory , I think of Gilmore Girls ...best show ever ...swoon Levi
ReplyDeleteI love ALL of these!
ReplyDeleteEmaline! I seriously love that name. Sarah Dessen has the best character names. Remy, Auden, etc. Why didn't I think of these whenever I posted my TTT?
ReplyDeleteBennett! Lincoln! Such swoon worthy names.
The only book I've read from your list is UNBREAK MY HEART, and yes, Clementine! Such a great, old fashioned name. Also, I have a brother named Lincoln and a friend named Oliver, so plus 10 for those picks too. Basically, your list is awesomesauce. *grin* Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLevi, Lincoln, Bennett, and Oliver are some of my favorites! I think I like the sound of Clementine, but I may have to think about that one a little longer. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI love all of your picks! I think Bennett is a great guys name. And I never thought I would love the name Clementine but I kind of really do. Although it drove me nuts that in Unbreak My Heart her sister's name was Olive.Too many food names for me...
ReplyDeleteSeriously, how cute is Clementine?! THE CUTEST I SAY.
ReplyDeleteI want to marry your list of names. Seriously! I love all of these names! LOVE.
ReplyDeleteI have Lennie on mine, too! :D And I like Rory, and reallllllly love Bennett! As for Levi, I'm starting to see that one more often (first saw it recently in the Unwind series by Neal Shusterman)! Thanks for sharing! :)

ReplyDeleteI'm the same, I love a good character name. Same can be said for when a name doesn't quite work, it can ruin a book for me. I loved Eragorn, from The Inheritance Cycle, by Christopher Paolini. And of your list above, Ginger, I'd pick Lennon (Lennie).
You picked Jude? I'm shocked ;) I love Emaline and Clementine--they're both so cute and pretty.
ReplyDeleteA very fun list -- and most of these books are new to me! I absolutely love the name Oliver . . . in fact, that's totally what I want to name my future son. (My soon-to-be husband disagrees, but I figure we'll cross that bridge when we get there.) Must look these novels up!
ReplyDeleteAw, I love all the names on this list! I love the name Bennett and Sam for a boy, as simple as the latter is. Levi seems like a really cute name too except for the fact that I can't help but think of jeans every time I hear it!
