(Never) Again by Theresa Paolo
To be published: October 15, 2013 by Berkley Penguin Group
Just when she had finally moved on…
…He moved back.
When college freshman Liz Wagner hears her ex's voice for the first time since he moved clear across the freaking country, she does what any respectable girl would do: Dive into the girls' bathroom.
Zach Roberts—the Zach Roberts—is back. And he’s everywhere Liz looks—infiltrating her friend group, buddy-buddy with her brother. It’s enough to ruin college altogether. But what choice does she have but to put on a happy face and pretend he didn't leave her vulnerable and alone in a pile of emotional wreckage?
Pretending works, until tragedy strikes and the only person available for comfort is the one person she wants to stay away from. When Zach turns out not to be the jerk she convinced herself he was, but the boy she used to love, Liz needs to decide whether to open her heart again to the boy who tore it out. [goodreads]
I'm always interested in reading more books set in college, so this one definitely made my to-be-read list for that factor. Then of course there's the romance & angst that peaked my interest, too. This book popped up on my radar because Sarah Dessen retweeted it. Not sure of the correlation there, but if it's a Dessen promotion it's gotta be worth a read, right?
"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
Excuse me while I race right over to Goodreads and mark this as 'to-read' immediately. Honestly, this sounds like precisely the sort of story I normally gravitate toward! Well-written books set in college are rare, and I appreciate the fact that the novel focuses on exploring a relationship that has already been founded as opposed to the first blush of love between strangers. Watching Liz and Zach confront the demons in their past sounds extremely promising and I have high hopes for this one now :)
ReplyDeleteYep, this just got added to Goodreads in record time. I need more books set in college!
ReplyDelete(Never) Again should definitely be on your to-read list. Zach is just a sweetheart, and if you're the type who has book boyfriends, he'll probably be at the top of that list. Lizzie has a terrific voice, she makes you laugh and cry, and although you want to smack some sense into her at times, you'll still love her.
ReplyDeleteFull disclosure: I'm a friend of Theresa's and have been privileged to see this book from the early stages on to completion. Theresa's not only an awesome writer (I've loved everything she's written), she's a terrific friend. I'm so excited to see her writing career take off after all her hard work and can't wait to see what the future holds for her.
This sounds fantastic, I love these kinds of stories. And like you said Sarah Dessen promoted it so it must be good!
ReplyDeleteOoh...this one does sound really good. I love stories set in college too. Definitely adding to my TBR list--great pick! ~Pam
ReplyDeleteOh yeah TOTALLY READING THIS
ReplyDeleteSounds interesting, not really my type of book, but I know who would enjoy it. I am a new GFC follower.
ReplyDeleteCheck out my WOW
This one is already on my to-read list! I can't wait! :)
ReplyDeleteI, too, would duck straight into the girls bathroom the second I saw/heard an ex. So this book has peaked my interest immediately! Roll on October...
