This week's Sweet Summertime Reads is about road trips! When I think of road trips, there is one in particular I have always wanted to venture down -- The Pacific Coast Highway in California. I have been to Cali a few times, but only southern Cali near San Diego and Los Angeles. I would love to take a road trip along the beautiful, winding highway that borders the Pacific coast. The pictures I've seen are breathtaking, and the stops along the way sound amazing. Below is a guide I'd like to follow (one day soon hopefully!)...
I found this handy map from National Geographic's website that shows the exact route I'd like to take. I decided to use this as a guide for today's post.
Tons of great info found at seemonterey.com from attractions, where to eat, and even the best scenic snapshot spots.

This 90 mile stretch of nothing but beautiful coastline is definitely a must for my road trip! Pretty sure this is what mother nature's beauty is all about.
This gorgeous National landmark is a must see along my road trip, as well. The castle was built in the early 1900s by William Randolph Hearst, and was then turned over to the state of California after he died.

I may never want to leave this quaint seaside town of Cambria along the Pacific Coast Highway. There's even a place called Moonstone Beach where you can find actual moonstones.

My road trip would finish off in Morro Bay, home of the extinct 23 million year old volcanic cone called Morro Rock.

This post couldn't have come at a better time. I'm trying to convince my husband that we need to take a trip like this. We're going San Diego next summer and I want to fly into San Francisco and drive down to San Diego. I've only been as far north as Los Angeles too and want to see more of the state. Thanks for sharing these gorgeous pictures!
ReplyDeleteSo, we're doing this when you come to visit, right? :)
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like an awesome road trip and the PCH always reminds me of Veronica Mars--double win!
This is great! I'm from San Diego and live in Monterey now, so this is a drive I'm VERY familiar with...I'm actually making the trek in two weeks! In Honor is one of the books I plan to read on vacation.
ReplyDeleteOoh, you're going to have fun! I remember one weekend when I drove down Rt. 1 to Monterey... so much fun, except I was the driver and all my friends kept on pointing out to window and telling me to look, but I couldn't since the roads are so winding! And you should also definitely check out McWay Waterfalls. It is a very short hike (5-10min.) to see a very pretty waterfall on the coast from a great vantage point.
ReplyDeleteBut wow, this post reminds me that I need to explore more my new home in Northern California. Still need to go on my weekend trip down to Hearst Castle :)
Anyways, I hope you get to go soon and have a blast!
I would like to do this exact same trip, so thank you for planning it out for me! Now, when? That's the question.
ReplyDeleteThose pictures are all amazing, I want to go! I'm actually doing a road trip in a few weeks. We're going down the Oregon and California coasts from Portland to San Francisco and then across California to Yosemite for a few days and then through Nevada on the Loneliest Highway in America (idea totally stolen from Amy and Roger's Epic Detour, thank god my friends are willing go indulge me!) and to Salt Lake City.
ReplyDeleteTravel! Travel! Travel! I want to travel! I love this post!! : ) Oh the book suggestions! eeeep! And the photos! When you take this trip, I'd love to see your photos!! : )
