For makeup artist Grace Barrett, Hollywood isn't the land of golden opportunity. It's the land of difficult divas, cheating boyfriends and unemployment. So when her great-aunt offers her a free place to stay in Jackson Hole, Grace thinks she'll spend a little time in the sticks to figure out her life, and then move somewhere exciting to live out her dreams. But it turns out that there are a few more thrills in this small town than Grace was expecting .
Cole Rawlins is a rugged Wyoming cowboy born and bred. Yet he can't help but be drawn to the fascinating big-city girl who moves in across from him. He wants to get close enough to Grace to see past her tough facade, but if he does, she might see the real Cole. The one with a Hollywood history gone bad. As they discover a sizzling attraction, it becomes harder for him to keep his demons at bay—and those fires from long ago may burn them both.
They'll need more than scorching-hot passion to make this opposites-attract affair work. But if they can learn to trust one another enough to reveal their secrets, they just might have a chance at forever. [goodreads]
I was recommended this book by my good friend Tara (via Estelle, who recommended it to her) and I must say, it definitely hit the spot! If you're a fan of adult romances that are quick-paced, sprinkled with a storyline that may be predictable, but still fun to follow, and a heck of a lot of sexual tension that delivers -- then this novel by Victoria Dahl is definitely for you!
I loved the setting of this small western town, full of quirky characters that just stepped off the ranch -- even complete with a saloon! The story's plot line centers around Grace, a young woman who is everything but small town western. She's on the run from Los Angeles, leaving behind mistake after mistake, hoping to regroup in Jackson Hole while on her way to her next big adventure. What begins as just a detour soon becomes a full on road block when she discovers the hot cowboy who lives just across the hall.
Both Grace and Cole are characters who assume they can seek a mature, adult relationship with each other, but ultimately their hearts get in the way and shake things up a bit. The passion between these two was instant and it was definitely smoldering! Even though the outcome of their relationship was predictable, it was still fun to follow the journey they discovered together.
With this being my first Victoria Dahl book, I am definitely intrigued to read more by her. If you're looking for a steamy romance that definitely delivers, then I highly recommend picking this one up.
My book club just read this one and I agree with you completely. It is sexy, smoldering, and yes, the ending is predictable, but you want it to be that way. And Cole is HOT, HOT, HOT. I've only read one other Victoria Dahl book, Talk Me Down. I liked it so much that it was why I recommended the author for our book club. Another member wanted to read about a cowboy, so there you go. I like that she is writing more books about the other characters of this story. I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteMy gosh, I remember HOW embarrassed I was reading this book. hahahaha. It was indeed hotter than I expected, and I loved every minute of it. In fact, I bought another VD novel AFTER reading it... let me look and see which. Crazy for Love. The cover looked awesome, and hey I'm sure VD will wow me once again!
ReplyDeleteI love Victoria's books. You should add her Tumble Creek series (first book is Talk me Down) to your TBR!
ReplyDeleteOoh, I haven't read anything by this author yet, but this sounds like it could be very, very entertaining. I miss reading romances! Need to get back into the saddle and start reading them again :)
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like something I would like! I love a good romance now and then.
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to try a Victoria Dahl book FOREVER but never know where to start. This one sounds great, so maybe I'll try it out! I love steamy romances! Great review :)
ReplyDeleteA steamy romance that delivers? I AM ON IT. Seriously the best and worst thing you ever did was start reviewing adult romances because while I love your reviews my wallet totally does not. ALTHOUGH I do have one Victoria Dahl book on my kindle -- Good Girls Don't. I'm very much looking forward to it now. :-)
ReplyDeleteVictoria Dahl is the only romance author on my MUST read list. I think out of 10 or so books there's only one I haven't reread. So hot with great characters.
