This is an awesome idea, I love it! Summer is my favorite time to read and this year, I am not taking any summer classes so I will have more time to read for sure. My favorite "summer" book recently has been Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler. It made me laugh & cry.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway and I look forward to participate in the summer-bookish posts :)
This is such a lovely idea! I absolutely love reading in summer, preferably during vacation at the beach. ♥ And then it doesn't even matter too much what genre the books are as long as they're "happy" books. :) This summer I definitely want to re-read ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS, because I bet it'll be an awesome beach-read. Other than that I always loved reading Sophie Kinsella's books ( = cute Chick Lit ).
ReplyDeleteI'd have to say my favorite summertime read would be the newest book in the Sarah Booth Delaney mystery series. I know it's Summer when they come out.
ReplyDeleteI would say the Hunger Games is my go to summer read
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful idea, I'm always looking for more summer reads! My favourite would probably be any Sarah Dessen or Maureen Johnson books - even though I recommend them all year, something about them scream light, fun summer reads that are still filled with substance. I love grabbing Along For the Ride or 13 Little Blue Envelopes and reading it laying out in the sand. And even though I haven't had it for a summer yet, I definitely think Wanderlove by Kirsten Hubbard will be a go-to summer read.

ReplyDeleteYou're so right about there being something about the summer that screams "READ!" I spent a week on a private island in the Bahamas two summers ago and even though we had beach/bikes/TV/etc. I just wanted to read the whole time (and I did!). Can't wait to read Sweet Summertime Reads. :)

Beverley @ A Reading Daydreamer
I remember reading 13 Little Blue Envelopes in its entirety at the beach last year. In a day. Perfect beach read: traveling, a little romance, and it had a nice pace. You could pick it up, put it down to swim, and pick up right where you left off. :)
ReplyDeleteSo excited to be a part of this "event". I think Zac Efron would also approve.

Amanda
Oh, man. This post just wants me to pack up a bag and some flip-flops and head to the beach! I read a little bit of everything; naturally lighter fare is more popular reading for the summer time, so I don't know what it says about me that when I think about it, I think the books I'd bring to the beach with me are A Song of Ice and Fire books! Not exactly light...but they'll make great headrests for when the sun makes me sleepy. : )
ReplyDeleteThe Summer Series :))
ReplyDelete-JennyC

ReplyDeleteMy fave summer reads are absolute chicklit or re-read my teenage faves XD yep, those pretty desperate and funny love stories from eg:Meg Cabot and always found some really old novels to read at the beach like I live in another time :)
ReplyDeleteI don't have a particular author for summer reading but usually I take with me at the beach some really happy books, chick-lit type. Or if I'm really in the mood I read some crime and mistery novels :)

Hmmm. I don't think I have a specific book I like to read in the summer, but I may lean more towards "Fantasy" books. I don't know if it's coincidence that I buy them right before the summer, or if that's just what I like to read. I'm wishing I had the sequel to "Blood Red Road" right now (which I read while camping last summer).
ReplyDeleteI don't have a favourite summer book. I'd say, anything I haven't read already! I like picking up something new :)
ReplyDeleteI have so so many good summer reads, but my ultimate favorite would have to be AMY AND ROGER'S EPIC DETOUR. It is so good!
ReplyDeleteOh, you're so right! There is something so magical and special about reading in the summer time and the books that go along with the theme. It's like slipping into a first love all over again, soaking up the hot summer sun, and just lying back and enjoying getting lost in the waves. I think my favorite reads for the summer would definitely include Kieran Scott's, She's So Dead To Us. I absolutely love this series, it's such a great set of books to read. Anything by Sarah Dessen, Jennifer Echol's of course, Simone Elkeles (sp?), Susane Consalati, Deb Caletti, etc. :)

ReplyDeleteLilian @ A Novel Toybox
I'm not sure what my favorite summer time read is, actually! It usually changes every year! I think this year it's going to be Anna and the French Kiss. I read that one earlier in the morning, and I think it would be perfect summer read. =)
ReplyDeleteMy perfect summertime reads are Sophie Kinsella's and Paige Toon's books. The books are so funny. They make me smile and are the best choice for a day at the beach.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite summertime reads are anything by Jennifer Echols or Susane Colasanti - I adore their books so much!
ReplyDeleteOh summer. :) I think my favorite summer reads include anything by Stephanie Perkins or Louise Rennison. Something fun and quirky, that's how I like to spend my summer reading!

ReplyDeleteI love sweet contemporaries and steamy historical romances for summer time reads. :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite summer reads are the ones that I can't read during the school year because a) they hadn't come out yet, b) they aren't school appropriate c) I need more time to think about them than I can with 30ish students in the room or d)the ones that I want to because I can! :)
ReplyDeleteI know this is super predictable, but my favorite summer reads are the Summer series by Jenny Han and Sarah Dessen's books. I also loved Moonglass by Jessi Kirby!
ReplyDeleteI love to read Sarah Dessen's books during the summer :)
ReplyDeleteBeauty Queens by Libba Bray :)
ReplyDeleteI read so many books all year and I've never really noticed that I pick different books in the summer. Maybe I just haven't picked up one of those perfect summer reads yet.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite summer read is "Along for the ride" by Sarah Dessen. I love all of her books but this one is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteIf we're just going with contemporary, I think I'd have to say Amy & Roger's Epic Detour. It's perfect since it happens in the summer, there's a cute guy, a road trip, and awesome playlist.
ReplyDeleteIt's so hard to name just one favourite summertime read, but I always seem to find my way back to the Gossip Girl series. I remember being so excited when each new book came out a while back, so now I use summer to re-live that feeling. Plus, it helps with summer hiatus of the TV show, although they really don't have all that much in common (except for the characters).
ReplyDeleteThere are times... when I'm feeling nostalgic when there's nothing better to read than a Babysitter's Club summer special... I know it's kind of daggy but I used to really love their antics and reading about their summer romances.

ReplyDeleteThanks!
I love road trip novels! "Amy & Roger's Epic Detour" is the perfect summer read.
ReplyDeleteI don't know that I have a specific "summer read," but I read Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse series in a week last summer, and the newest just came out in May, so I think those are good summer books for me. :) I can stay up all night reading about vampires and werewolves! I also loved The Hunger Games last summer and got so wrapped up in that trilogy. Thank you for the giveaway!

ReplyDeleteprobably Tempting the Best Many by J. Lynn cause its short and so much fun!
ReplyDeleteBasically lighthearted romantic (and possibly comedic) contemporary reads! Some fantastic magic/adventure books such as Howl's Moving Castle or Chrestomanci or Percy Jackson! It's just awesome to have an 'adventure' in summer, right?
ReplyDeleteI ADORE The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants! I have reread this series every summer since I was ten. I simply LOVE it.

But of course my favorite summer reads are Jennifer Echols books, I MEeeeeAN! they practically scream: I WILL MAKE YOUR SUMMER (& I HAVE STEAMY ROMANCE!)
ReplyDeleteI always find Sarah Dessen books perfect for summer reading. Particularly the books that have the beach in them.
ReplyDeleteDifficult question. I suppose I am happy reading anything. Seasons have very little impact on my reading moods. I suppose I've enjoyed the Sookie Stackhouse books that seem to release each May. =)
ReplyDeleteI have to say that the Harry Potter series are my favorite summer reads. I usually reread all seven each summer.
ReplyDeleteI love Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.
ReplyDeleteI love reading classics during the summer, for some reason. Something about the languid atmosphere of the season encourages my interest in them, I suppose because I have more time to really get into them. I love reading Jane Austen books, especially "Pride & Prejudice" and "Sense & Sensibility". Other than that, I love reading "Beauty Queens" by Libba Bray, which makes me laugh out loud, and I love that! :)
